The concept and terminology of Thamizh Thai was by Manonmaniam Sundaram Pillai (1855 - 1897).
The song "Niraarum Kadal Udutha" from Manonmaniam was adapted as Thamizh Thai Vaazhthu, "Invocation to Goddess Tamil" and approved by the Government of Tamil Nadu as the official Tamil anthem in June 1970. The music was composed by M.S.Viswanathan and was sung originally by TMS and P.Susheela.
