* 2 Jan 2026
In the beginning of the present century there sprang up a class of numismatists, who were not only very keen collectors of coins and ardent students but were also keen on the co-ordination of the results of these researches and on systematising the studies by affording a common platform for bringing together collectors and students of Indian Numismatics. With this end in view the six founders of this Society, viz. Mr. (later Sir) Richard Burn, I.C.S., H.R. Nevill, I.C.S., R.B. Whitehead, I.C.S., H.N. Wright, I.C.S., Framji Thanawala, and Rev. Dr. P. Taylor, D.D. Met together for the first time at Allahabad on 28th December 1910 and brought into being a Society called 'The Numismatic Society of India' .
