Kailash Manasarovar Yatra
Situated in the far Western Himalayan ranges of Tibetan Autonomous
Region (Trans-himalayas), the 6638 meter tall diamond shaped Mount
Kailash (also Kailāsa in Hinduims & Gang Rinpoche in Tibetan) and
the largest freshwater Lake Mansarovar (also Manas Sarovar in Hindi
& Mapam Yumtso in Tibetan) are the source of divine energy and
mental peace for mankind. Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar are reserved
as the most sacred places in Hindu, Jain, Bodh and Bon religions. Every
year during the months of April to October a large number of devotees
and adventure seekers visit Kailash Mansarovar from all over the world.

Ministry of External Affairs organizes Kailash Manasarovar Yatra
during June to August / September each year through two different routes
- Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand),and Nathu La Pass (Sikkim). Kailash
Manasarovar Yatra (KMY) is known for its religious value and cultural
significance. It is undertaken by hundreds of people every year. Being
significant to Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, it holds religious
importance also for the Jains and the Buddhists.

Lipulekh Pass: The Kailash Range, considered to be one of
the most sacred by Hindus, is said to be 30 million years old, formed
during the early stages of the formation of the Himalayan mountains. Its
highest peak, the 6,675-m-high Kailash, is said to be the holy
residence of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The mountain has immense
significance in Jainism and among Tibetans as well and has been
attracting pilgrims from various religions for centuries. The holy
mountain and the sacred lake, Mansarovar, are located in Tibet, routes
from Uttarakhand connect it with India. Pilgrims from India can reach
Mount Kailash through the Lipulekh pass in Kumaon. The pilgrimage to
Kailash and the sacred Mansarovar lake is run exclusively by government
bodies, including the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), in collaboration
with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
